CMYK Magazine #50

Magazine Cover, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE...this illustration! I think it's an excellent use if typography, and the color (CYM) in the center really make the black (K) pop. Who knew fifty could be drawn so many different ways?
This was done by Felipe Mollica of San Francisco, California. He is the Art Director of Miami Ad School. I thought that this was a really clever ad/poster because it's so simple! I love that that it mainly consists of the 7-11 logo and the price of a Slurpee. I'm sure though, it involved a lot of behind the scenes work. I can't imagine trying to separate the different colors, or working with melting ice shavings. And I bet it was tricky to keep the negative space of eleven clean. It is an excellent example or texture and it was photographed beautifully!
This was created by Hannah Saunders. She is the Art Director of the Chicago Portfolio School. And did this work for Connection for Abused Women and Their Children. I think that this is an excellent example of how design can be used everyday. I think it's a great idea to be able to donate to a great cause with out having to go out of your way. It's a small things that riders can do on their commute. That will make a difference. I really enjoy the poster above the kiosk, and I think the use of purple is fitting, and it makes the buttons stand out.

This poster illustration was done by Theresa Decker of the Tyler School of Art, in Philadelphia PA. For Painstaking Precision: World Barista Championship. I thought this was an excellent Illustration, because of the styling, and the perspective. It reminded me of a project we did in GDS 120 (I believe... it was a poster for the Champaign City Building.) I like that the designer chose to invert the building, and create tension between the drop and the cup.

This book cover was designed by Joshua Davis of Texas A&M University. Lord of the Flies Book Cover. I like it because it's simply a photograph and doesn't require anything else. The embroidery is so cool and really makes a mental connection to the boys in the book. (How the started out so civilized) Also it reminds me of Harry Potter, lol!

This was created by Jon Dufau of California State University. For Pastime packaging. And I thought this was a very clever overall. I appreciate that the designer thought of every detail and really "hit it out of the park." (lol, lame) I like that the Beer bottles look like wood bats, and having them inverted really emphasizes that shape.
